Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation in San Diego

What Is TMS?
Transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) is an FDA-cleared, non-invasive depression treatment. A device (in our case, NeuroStar®) uses magnetic impulses to stimulate areas of the brain associated with mood regulation. TMS has been shown to be highly effective in treating a variety of mood and thought disorders, including PTSD and anxiety.
How TMS Therapy Works
Transcranial magnetic stimulation treatment works by using a focused magnetic field that’s delivered through a coil placed against your scalp. Through a NeuroStar® device that delivers magnetic pulses, underactive areas of the brain (specifically the prefrontal cortex, which plays a key role in emotional regulation) can be stimulated or re-activated.

Benefits of TMS Therapy
Drug-free
TMS therapy is a drug-free treatment–no sedation or anesthesia required. You’ll be comfortable, awake, and alert the entire time.
Non-Invasive
There are no invasive procedures involved, which means you can drive yourself home after sessions.
Virtually Pain-Free
Transcranial magnetic stimulation is well-tolerated by most, with many describing the sensation as a mild tapping.
Minimal Side Effects
TMS therapy side effects are mild and may include slight scalp discomfort at the treatment site or a short-lasting headache.

Why TMS Is a Preferred Treatment

Clinically Proven
The TMS therapy success rate is high, with over 65 clinical studies with nearly 2,000 patients backing NeuroStar’s® effectiveness.*

No Systemic Impact
Unlike conventional antidepressants, TMS doesn’t cause digestive issues, fatigue, or weight gain.
Hassle-Free
TMS therapy is fast, with no downtime, making it easy to maintain your daily routine.
Long-Lasting
Many clients experience long-term symptom relief that lasts for months, even years, after completing treatment.
TMS vs. Traditional Depression Treatments
Conventional approaches to treating mood disorders attempt to alter brain chemistry through oral medication. But that doesn’t only impact brain chemistry–it affects the entire body. While waiting weeks or even months to find relief, many have to navigate the unwanted side effects of traditional treatments, such as fatigue. What’s more, there may not be relief at the end of the journey, as many do not respond to conventional therapies.
Transcranial magnetic stimulation treatment offers a targeted, non-drug approach. Instead of targeting the entire body, specific mood-regulating areas of the brain are identified and treated. In clinical use, TMS has been shown to offer fewer side effects, faster relief, and higher remission rates compared to standard care alone.
